Welcome!
Ever go through a time that just wears you down? You’ve had enough. You want to hit pause, maybe even call a mulligan and start over. I get it. I’ve been there too. In those moments, I find myself longing for something more, something that calms my soul and helps me feel grounded again.
If that sounds like you, you’re in good company. Pour yourself a cup of coffee, take a deep breath, and join me for this week’s Digest. Let’s find a little rest, and maybe even a fresh start together.
What I’m Thinking
There’s a kind of tired that no nap can fix.
It’s the soul-level exhaustion that comes from trying to hold it all together, from managing responsibilities, meeting expectations, hiding pain, or simply surviving when life feels too heavy.
This is the kind of weariness Jesus is speaking to in Matthew 11:28–30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Many of us live with unspoken weight.
We carry anxiety about the future, guilt from the past, and pressure to perform in the present. And for those navigating mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, or burnout, the burden can feel overwhelming.
The problem is not just that we’re busy.
It’s that we’re burdened.
And that’s where Jesus meets us, not with judgment, but with an invitation: Come to me.
He doesn’t say “clean up first” or “get stronger.”
He simply says: Come.
That’s the Big Thought. God doesn’t require us to be fixed before we can rest. He invites us to rest so He can begin to restore us.
Jesus promises a kind of rest that goes deeper than sleep.
It’s not just physical recovery. It’s soul rest.
This kind of rest comes from being seen, known, and loved. Not for what you produce, but for who you are. In a world that rewards hustle, Jesus reminds us we’re human souls, not machines. He knows we’re weary. And He calls us to rest with Him, not apart from Him.
For those dealing with mental health struggles, this changes the conversation.
Because the loudest voices often say “try harder,” “be stronger,” or “you should be over this by now.”
Jesus says, Come to me. No shame. No performance. Just presence. Just rest.
And then He says something unexpected: Take my yoke upon you.
At first, that sounds like more work. But a yoke isn’t about extra weight. It’s about shared weight. In Jesus’ day, a yoke was placed on two oxen so they could pull a load together. When Jesus offers His yoke, He’s saying: Let me carry this with you.
You’re not meant to bear this burden alone.
That’s the metaphor I keep coming back to:
Life is a field you can’t plow alone.
But yoked with Jesus, the work becomes possible.
Not because the task changes, but because the One walking beside you gives strength and sets the pace.
Jesus says, Learn from me. He’s not just walking with us. He’s teaching us a new rhythm. One of gentleness. One of humility. One that trusts the Father instead of trying to do it all on our own.
When we think about faith and mental health, this image is powerful.
You don’t have to carry it alone.
You don’t have to fix it all at once.
You don’t have to be strong enough to make it through.
You just have to walk with Jesus and let Him walk with you.
His burden is light not because life is easy, but because His love is strong.
He shoulders the weight. He steadies the pace. He gives grace when we stumble.
“You weren’t made to carry it all. You were made to walk with the One who can.”
If you’re weary today, don’t push harder.
Accept the invitation.
Come to Jesus.
And find the soul-deep rest your heart has been craving.
Three Things To Remember
You Don’t Have to Be Fixed to Find Rest
Jesus doesn’t wait for us to get it all together—He invites us to come as we are. True rest begins not with perfection, but with presence. His presence.
Soul Rest Is Found in Shared Weight
The yoke of Jesus isn’t a call to do more—it’s an offer to carry life together. He walks with us, teaches us, and lightens our load with strength, grace, and compassion.
You’re Not Meant to Carry It All Alone
Mental health struggles can feel isolating, but Jesus offers a new rhythm—gentle, humble, and rooted in love. You don’t have to push harder. You just have to come.
Live It Out
If you're feeling weary or overwhelmed, pause. Breathe. Come to Jesus just as you are. You don’t have to have it all together. You’re not alone, and you’re not meant to do this alone. Let Him carry the weight with you.
Take one small step toward soul rest today. Reach out, pray, talk to someone, or simply be still in His presence.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
When I am weary, be my strength.
When I have no might, increase my power.
Lift my eyes from what I cannot carry to the One who carries me.
Thank You for never growing tired, and for meeting me right where I am.
Help me trust Your strength more than my own—today and every day.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
